Now that we are experiencing colder winter temperatures and there is a definite temptation to just avoid the outdoor chill and get cozy under a warm blanket, I think it’s appropriate to delve into the idea of using throw blankets in your home décor. They serve, not only as snuggly adult security blankets, but also as a textural element of interior style and an homage to the latest design trend of “Hygge” – a Danish concept which refers to the feeling of coziness.
More specifically, the Cambridge Dictionary defines hygge as “a Danish word for a quality of cosiness (= feeling warm, comfortable, and safe) that comes from doing simple things such as lighting candles, baking or spending time at home with your family.”
Throws can be draped artistically haphazard, they can be folded neatly, they can be layered, there are so many different ways to use a throw for decorative purposes.
In the pictures above and to the right, I’ve used different scarves in each of them as throws and they worked beautifully! The textures and colours worked perfectly and they were elements that I wasn’t able to find in a throw, so scarves were the perfect alternative. I don’t even think anyone would notice!
If you have some blanket scarves laying around that you aren’t wearing very much or you have a spot on a chair, bed or a couch that looks a bit bare, try a throw. It might be just what you were missing!
